Overview

OpenEPT Battery Charger is a programmable battery charging platform designed for battery testing, characterization, and development. The board can be used as a standalone charger or integrated with the OpenEPT Energy Profiler Probe (EPP) to create a complete platform for automated battery experiments.

Standalone operation

The Charger can operate independently as a battery charging platform, allowing charging parameters to be configured and the charging process to be monitored without requiring the Energy Profiler Probe.

Integration with OpenEPT EPP

The Charger includes a dedicated interface for integration with the OpenEPT Energy Profiler Probe. When used together, the two boards provide control over both charging and discharging of the connected battery, while the EPP simultaneously measures battery voltage and current.

This integration enables automated battery characterization workflows, including repeated charge/discharge cycles, acquisition of battery voltage and current profiles, capacity analysis, and extraction of parameters required for battery modeling and State-of-Charge (SoC) estimation.

Development workflow

The Charger can be used for standalone battery charging during development or as part of a complete OpenEPT battery characterization setup. Combined with the EPP and OpenEPT software tools, it provides a platform for automating experiments that would otherwise require manual control of separate charging, loading, and measurement equipment.
